Maximum Security Inmate Fight Prompts Lockdown At Cranston ACI
A spokesperson for the ACI said one inmate in the maximum-security facility was injured in a stabbing.

CRANSTON, RI โ A maximum security inmate at the Adult Correctional Institute in Cranston was injured in a fight Monday morning, prompting a police response and heightened security at the prison. A spokesperson for the ACI said in a statement that the facility was placed on lockdown as part of procedure.
"We received information from Maximum Security that an altercation occurred between two inmates. One inmate was taken to the hospital to be treated for what appears to be a stab wound; he was conscious, alert and responsive," J.R. Ventura, the spokesperson for the ACI, said in a statement. "The other inmate is being questioned about the incident. The facility is on lockdown to make sure the area is secured, and safety protocols were activated as part of our normal response procedures."
Ventura added that no other people were involved and all staff and inmates at the prison are safe at this time.

Rhode Island State Police confirmed they were called to the prison early Monday morning to assist in the response to the incident, but decline to comment further.
WJAR reported that officers in tactical gear with shotguns were stationed outside the prison's fence.
