Lane Shift At I-95, Route 146 Split Causing Traffic Backups
Leave extra time if you plan on driving in the area over Labe Day weekend.
PROVIDENCE, RI — A new, temporary traffic pattern in place at the Interstate 95 North-Route 146 split is causing backups in downtown Providence. The lane split has been in place for one week, causing bumper-to-bumper traffic at times.
The lane split creates one lane to the left and one to the right, allowing for a safe construction zone for ongoing work on the Louisquisset Pike Ramp Bridge. The new traffic pattern is scheduled to be in place until mid-October, when all lanes will be shifted to the right. The entire project is scheduled to be finished next fall.
Drivers in the area are encouraged to leave extra time, especially during peak travel times, such as heading into and at the end of the long Labor Day weekend.
