Lane Shifts Coming To Woonasquatucket River Bridge This Week
Lane shifts are coming to both sides of the Woonasquatucket River Bridge on Route 6 in Providence this week.
PROVIDENCE, RI — Lane shifts are coming to Route 6 in Providence this week. Lanes will be shifted to the right on both sides of the Woonasquatucket River Bridge, with two lanes in each direction.
The bridge is just west of the Hartford Avenue exit.
Eastbound lanes will be shifted in time for Wednesday morning's commute, while westbound lane shifts will be in place for Thursday morning. Overnight lane closures will be in place as crews shift the flow of traffic.

This new traffic pattern will be in place through 2020, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation said. The $10.8 million bridge replacement project is scheduled to be complete by Spring 2021.
The Woonasquatucket River Bridge, which carries 60,000 vehicles per day, was just one point away from "structurally deficient" in its last inspection, RIDOT said.
