PROVIDENCE, RI — Starting this Wednesday, Rhode Islanders will have a new way to get around Providence, no driver needed. The "Little Roady" autonomous shuttle program is coming to the streets of Providence following a trial run in Quonset earlier this year. Shuttles will run from Olneyville to Providence Station.

A kick-off ceremony for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation's pilot program is planned for Tuesday ahead of Wednesday's launch. During the trial period, the service will be free, with 12 stops operating between Olneyville and the Providence train station.

The shuttles are fully electric and can carry up to five people at a time. While they are driverless, each has an attendant on board who can take over the controls if needed.
