Local PR Pro Elected to Art League of Rhode Island Board

Nancy Thomas, owner of Tapestry Communications, joins the board of a group that fosters recognition of Rhode Island artists.

Nancy Thomas is plenty busy running her PR and marketing firm Tapestry Communications.

That hasnโ€™t stopped the Cranston PR maven from setting aside time to serve on the board of a state organization that advocates and offers venues for Rhode Island artists.

Thomas was recently elected to a position on the board of directors of Art League of Rhode Island, which celebrates its 15th year this year.

The league is based โ€œon a shared vision to encourage and foster artistic recognition and growth among RI Artists, and its mission is to provide a venue for the growth and encouragement of artists, to promote high standards in the visual arts, and to encourage community participation and appreciation of the greater Rhode Island arts community,โ€ according to a release.

The league sponsors an annual exhibition featuring work from its members, whose ranks include some of the the most prominent and respected artists in the state.

The next major event will be in September at the Newport Art Museum featuring works from member artists from Sept. 5 to Jan. 3.

Part of what makes the league so useful for the artist community in Rhode Island might be the smaller, more intimate events, such as the โ€œModern Salonโ€ events that bring together artists in beautiful places to critique and discuss each othersโ€™ work.

Among Thomasโ€™ responsibilities on the board will be helping to spread the word about the leagueโ€™s activities and the arts in general. She will serve on the boardโ€™s Communications Committee and as a public relations professional, sheโ€™s got her work cut out for her.

After the leagueโ€™s 2015 annual meeting at the Providence Art Club, Thomas said she was โ€œvery honoredโ€ to be installed as a member of the board of directors.
