PROVIDENCE, RI – A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter. Alexander Dejesus, 25, of Chicopee agreed to a plea deal Monday following the 2016 killing of Dylan Contreras in Pawtucket. The plea deal consists of 30 years in prison with 21 to serve, as well as a 10-year suspended sentence for carrying a pistol without a license.

On September 24, 2016, Dejesus was walking down Japonica Street with a .38 caliber semi-automatic handgun after leaving a party. The victim, Contreras, was driving nearby at the time and pulled up alongside Dejesus and three other people.

Following an exchange of words, Dejesus shot at Contreras twice. According to the Associated Press, Contreras was later found dead inside his vehicle, crashed into a utility pole. The medical examiner later determined he died from his injuries.
