Motorcyclist Killed In DUI Crash On Route 146 South: Police

Ydaliza Pimentel, 31, was charged with driving under the influence, death resulting, and driving to endanger, death resulting.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Providence man is facing DUI charges after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Route 146 South Wednesday evening. The motorcyclist, 31-year-old Rudy Maldonado of Woonsocket, was thrown from his bike and pronounced dead at the hospital.

The crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. at the Admiral Street exit ramp. According to police, Ydaliza Pimentel, also 31, was driving a Honda sedan in the low-speed lane when Maldonado, driving behind him, changed lanes to take the exit. As the motorcycle passed Pimentel's car, the Honda also moved to the right to take the exit, hitting the bike.

The crash caused Maldonado to lost control of the motorcycle, police said, and it swerved off the road. Maldonado was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Pimentel was charged with driving under the influence, death resulting, and driving to endanger, death resulting. He was held overnight pending his arraignment in Sixth Division District Court.
