Murder Suspect Komrowski Attempts Suicide

Prison officials said Matthew Komrowski, who is being held without bail on charges of murder and kidnapping, attempted suicide around 11:30 a.m. today.

The man accused of killing his girlfriend and setting fire to her apartment Thursday night has reportedly attempted suicide in his cell at the Adult Correctional Institutions.

Prison officials said Matthew Komrowski, 34, who was , made a suicide attempt today around 11:30 a.m.

"He had a cell mate who brought the attempt to the staff's attention," said Tracey Zeckhausen, spokeswoman for the ACI. "As in all such cases, the Department’s Internal Affairs and Special Investigations Units are investigating and the Rhode Island State Police have been notified. His injuries were not life threatening. He has been taken to an area hospital for treatment."

The suicide attempt c when the ex-husband of victim Shirley Donnelly, 38, lunged over the railing and tried to assault Komrowski as he was being led out of the courtroom.

Komrowski is being charged with murder and kidnapping for allegedly killing a bound Donnelly before setting fire to her apartment on Thursday. Her body was discovered by a neighbor who was checking up on the smoky condition.
