Col. Michael J. Winquist, Cranston’s relatively new chief of police, has indicated that he wants to connect with residents, bridge divides and enhance the department’s philosophy of community policing.

And what better way to do it than over a cup of coffee?

On Thursday morning (Jan. 22,) Winquist, the former second-in-command of the Rhode Island State Police, will be sitting down at Brewed Awakenings at 1200 Pontiac Ave. to meet with residents for the second of several planned “Coffee with the Chief” events.

The first event was in December at Little Falls Bakery and Cafe in Pawtuxet Village.

“The Coffee with the Chief event is an opportunity to meet the new head of the Cranston Police Department and talk to him about his mission and vision for policing in our City as well as to discuss the future of law enforcement,” a release stated.

Winquist will be there from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
