Obituary: Rosa DePalo, 89

Rosa DePalo, 89, of Rangeley Road, Cranston, passed away on June 23, 2013 at Scalabrini Villa in North Kingstown.

Rosa DePalo, 89, of Rangeley Road, Cranston, passed away on June 23, 2013 at Scalabrini Villa in North Kingstown.  

Born in Giovinazza, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Nicola and Anna (Volpicella) DePalo.  Rosa came to America in 1935; she worked as a seamstress in New York City and a dress maker in Providence.  She opened her own shop in 1953, “The Dress Making Shoppe”, in Providence.  Rosa serviced her clients there for 33 years before her retirement.  She took pride in cooking for her large family and loved to help her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by three brothers and four sister-in-laws, Savino “Sal” DePalo and his wife Rita, Angelo DePalo and his wife Alba and Yolanda DePalo, all of Cranston and Mario “Matt” DePalo and his wife Virginia of Natick, MA.  She is also survived by 15 nephews and nieces and 30 grandnephews and grandnieces.  Rosa was the sister of the late Michael and Frank DePalo and sister-in-law of Frank’s deceased wife Anne DePalo.

Funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Friday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Church of St. Mark at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will be held in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.  VISITING HOURS: Thursday 4-8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of St. Mark, 9 Garden Ct, Cranston, RI 02920-5787 or Scalabrini Villa, 860 North Quidnessett Road, North Kingstown, RI 02852.
