One Act Play Festival At Artists' Exchange Brings Variety to the Stage

The Artists' Exchange will be holding its 6th Annual One Act Play Festival from August 5th through August 28th. The plays are split into two waves which will be performed Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm and Sundays at 2pm.

The newest production to grace the stage of the Black Box Theatre is the sixth Annual One Act Play Festival. The festival could not have come at a better time. This past Wednesday marked the seventh year that the has been open. All who work and act at the Artists’ Exchange know that it is their connection with each other and with audience members that keeps the people coming for more.

“It’s all about community for us here,” said Rich Morra, Artistic Director. “They embrace and accept our mission so strongly. This is really why we exist.”

No matter what your taste may consist of, the Artists’ Exchange One Act Play Festival has something for everyone to enjoy. With 18 plays from both national and local playwrights, this is a must see production.

“I think it’s a great way to showcase multiple talents, local talents,” said Christina Mealey, Director of Development.

The Artists’ Exchange received 200 submissions this year. The process was long and difficult but 18 one acts were chosen to be in the festival. The amount chosen resulted in the festival being split into two waves. Each wave consists of nine original one acts, four of which come from local playwrights Kevin Broccoli, Barbara Schweitzer, Joanne Fayan, and Jim Sullivan.

“It gives the audiences a lot to take in in one night,” said Mealey.

Whether you are looking for a thought invoking drama or some light comedic relief, the Artists’ Exchange sixth Annual One Act Play Festival is the perfect way to get a dose of what you’re looking for and more.

Walking into the Artists’ Exchange amidst the sweet smells of coffee brewing and popcorn popping, each audience member is greeted with a friendly smile. Friendliness and a sense of community are two things that the Artists’ Exchange never lacks.

The One Act Play Festival will begin on August 5th and continue until August 28th. Performances will take place Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm and Sundays at 2pm. Tickets are $15 for each Wave or $25 for Waves I and II.
