Out with the Old, In with the New at Garden City
The old Borders Bookstore is being demolished in Garden City Center — a symbol of the ongoing change and growth of the destination shopping center.
"There's something in the air. . ." is the slogan at Garden City Center, and this week, it was the sound of destruction.
But that's a good thing, since the destruction was the demolition of the former Borders Bookstore as construction on the new L.A. Fitness, which will open in December, is about to begin.
It's just the latest sign of change at the popular destination shopping center.

On the other side of the shopping center, employees at Starbucks are feeling a little extra cramped as construction on an expansion of that store is underway. The old store has turned into a work zone, but that hasn't stopped regulars from getting their daily fix of joe. Once complete, the new store will have more room for tables and customers as well as a view of the rest of the plaza, which keeps on expanding.
Nearby, Lululemon Athletica is putting the finishing touches on their store, which is expected to open on April 26.
