Providence Named Worst City For People With Disabilities
A new ranking from WalletHub puts Rhode Island's capital at the bottom of the list.
PROVIDENCE, RI — A new ranking puts Rhode Island at the bottom of the list when it comes to accessibility. According to WalletHub, Providence is the worst major city for people with disabilities.
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The ranking compared 182 cities across the country, comparing factors, and ranking the economy, quality of life and health care.
South Burlington, Vermont came in first place with an overall score of 56.64 and the second-best economic rating. Scottsdale, Arizona, St. Louis, Missouri, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Sa Francisco, California round out the top five.

Rhode Island is joined at the bottom of the list by Bridgeport, Connecticut, Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Gulfport, Mississippi. Providence earned an overall score of 37.93. Here's how the Ocean State compares in the other categories:
- Economy: 175
- Quality of Life: 90
- Health Care: 180
At 20.9 percent, Huntington, West Virginia has the highest percent of people with disabilities living in the city, while Irvine, California, has the lowest at 5.9 percent.
