According to Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott, the director of the Rhode Island Department of Health, all of the latest deaths were residents in nursing homes. Seven were in their 70s, seven were in their 80s and four were in their 90s. Nine of the deaths happened Wednesday, while the rest were reported Thursday due to a lag in test processing and other factors, Alexander-Scott said.
So far, 45 percent of the state's cases of coronavrius have been in the Latino community, a "serious over-representation," Alexander-Scott said. To address this, the department is working to increase the number of testing sites in certain communities and to address living conditions where needed.
