Rhode Island Foundation names East Greenwich man to Board of Directors

Dr. G. Alan Kurose of East Greenwich has been named to the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Foundation. As the state’s largest funder of nonprofit organizations, the Foundation awarded $45 million in grants to more than 1,600 nonprofits in 2016.

Dr. Kurose is President and CEO of Coastal Medical, a primary care-driven Accountable Care Organization (ACO) that provides care to 120,000 patients in 20 medical offices across Rhode Island.

The East Greenwich resident was a practicing primary care physician in a community-based office in East Providence for 20 years and has been CEO at Coastal since 2008. He is a member of the board of the Care Transformation Collaborative-RI and a member of several committees in the state Office of the Health Insurance Commissioner.

Dr. Kurose has also been involved in health care reform at the national level, serving on the Policy Committee for the National Association of ACOs, the Leadership Alliance of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and the Healthcare Executive Advisory Council for UnitedHealth Group.

Dr. Kurose is a graduate of the Washington University School of Medicine and the Brown University Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at Rhode Island Hospital. He is a graduate of the Yale MBA for Executives: Leadership in Healthcare program and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Health Services, Policy and Practice at Brown University.

Along with Dr. Kurose, Teknor Apex CEO Jonathan Fain of Barrington and Providence resident Carrie Bridges Feliz of Lifespan were also named to the Foundation’s board.
