RI Bar Foundation Offering $25k Law School Scholarships

Two first-year law students will receive $25,000 grants from the Thomas F. Black, Jr. scholarship fund.

CRANSTON, RI — The Rhode Island Bar Foundation is offering $25,000 scholarships to two prospective Rhode Island lawyers. The Thomas F. Black, Jr. scholarship is open to students who will begin law school at an American Bar Association accredited law school.

Scholarships will be awarded based on financial need, academic performance, community and public service and a demonstrated commitment to the state of Rhode Island, including contacts with the state. The scholarship committee said that race, color, religion, country of ancestral origin, handicap, age, sex or sexual orientation will not impact the decision of scholarship winners.

The fund has awarded 64 scholarships since 1984. The program is supported in part by the Horace A. Kimball and S. Ella Kimball Foundation and The Champlin Foundation. The scholarship is named for Black, a well-known lawyer and banker who was dedicated to the community and various charitable causes.
