RI Sees Lowest Daily Increase In Coronavirus Cases Since April

Rhode Island's Department of Health reported​ the lowest daily increase in new coronavirus cases since April 2.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Rhode Island's Department of Health reported the lowest daily increase in new coronavirus cases since April 2. On Sunday, state officials confirmed 116 new cases and 11 fatalities.

The total number of deaths in the state is up to 608, and the number of cases surpassed 14,000 . Over 1,100 COVID-19 patients in Rhode Island have been discharged from hospitals, according to the DOH. As of Sunday, 240 people were hospitalized, 49 people were in the intensive care unit and 32 were on ventilators.

The state has tested 132,701 people so far.

The decline in cases comes as Rhode Island's salons, gyms, beaches and other businesses are expected to be allowed to reopen in the coming weeks. On Friday, Gov. Gina Raimondo announced that she expects to enter phase 2 of reopening starting June 1.
