BOSTON — Members of the Rhode Island State Police will once again run the Boston Marathon this year to raise funds for sick children. This is the 18th year that troopers will run in the annual race, and the eighth that the department will run in honor of Cops for Kids with Cancer.

The national non-profit organization offers financial assistance to families of children with cancer. This year, Rhode Island State Troopers will run in honor of Massachusetts State Police Lieutenant William Coulter, who died last year.

So far, the six member-team has raised $10,000, with a goal of raising $15,00 total, through donations and t-shirt sales. If they reach their goal, the troopers will be able to provide three local families with $5,00 each to cover medical costs and other expenses.

Anyone interested in making a donation can do so on the Cops for Kids with Cancer website. To buy a t-shirt, contact Trooper Amy Jackman via email at amy.jackman@risp.gov.
