Second Threat Received; Mayors Say Schools Will Be Safe

Cranston, Johnston and Warwick mayors met after another letter threatening local schools was received.

The Cranston Police Department was notified by the Johnston Police Department that a second threatening letter was received by what appears to be the same author of the Oct. 7 letter.

The Providence Journal reported that Cranston Mayor Allan Fung, Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena and Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian gathered at Johnston Town Hall late Wednesday to reassure parents that the public schools will be safe and that families should not hesitate to send their children to school.

The threat was not specific to any school but did name the three communities- Cranston, Johnston and Warwick. The police department will provide heighten security at drop off, dismissal, recess and outside events. In addition, there will be random patrols at all schools.
