A team of Rhode Island State Troopers will once again be running in this year's Boston Marathon. For the seventh year in a row, troopers will be running to raise money for Cops for Kids with Cancer, an organization that gives money to families of children with cancer.

The six-person team has already raised $12,000 of their $15,000 goal, and hope to continue to raise money through donations and t-shirt sales. If their goal is reached, the team will give three families $5,000 each to help with medical expenses.

State troopers have taken part in the marathon for 17 years in a row. Two of this year's team members, Robert Bentsen and Scott Potter, have run the race before. The other four troopers, Peter Cambio, Thomas Bruso, Corey Hopkins and Dean Marr, will be running the marathon for the first time.

"Many of these families are struggling to pay their children’s medical expenses, in addition to their regular bills, especially if they have to quit their jobs or work less hours so they can be with their children during this ordeal," Cambio said. "We hope the donations raised by our team will somewhat lessen the financial burden for some of these families so they can focus on what truly matters – caring for their children and ultimately beating cancer!"

Rhode Island State Troopers are one of several teams of police officers raising money for the organization. Collectively, all the teams hope to raise $300,000 at the April 15 marathon.
