Social Worker Attacked by Inmate in Women's Prison

The social worker was punched multiple times in the head.

A social worker was attacked by an inmate in the Women’s Division at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston on Tuesday.

According to the Rhode Island Brotherhood of Correctional Officers, inmate Abigail Carter, who is being held on assault charges, attacked a clinical social worker shortly after 7 p.m.

Carter reportedly struck the social worker with multiple punches to the head before she was restrained.

Though she was hit multiple times, the social worker was not seriously injured.

“This unprovoked attack once again demonstrates the escalating pattern of violence that is occurring inside of RIDOC prison facilities,” Richard Ferruccio of RIBCO said.
