The Salgi Esophageal Cancer Research Foundation is creating a video slideshow of the brave men and women affected by esophageal cancer.

Submit your photo for our Esophageal Cancer Awareness Video Slideshow!

April is Esophageal Cancer Awareness Month. This year, The Salgi Esophageal Cancer Research Foundation is putting together a video slideshow of all the brave men and women who have been affected by esophageal cancer- those who have survived, those who have passed away and those who are currently fighting this horrific cancer.

If you would like to submit a photo to be included in the slideshow, please email salgifoundation @ gmail .com by Friday, March 24th at 2PM EST. Please only send one photo per person to be included in the slideshow. Please also include the person’s name and if applicable, the birth year and year of passing. (I.e. John Smith, 1968-2014)

Consider Making a Donation Along With Your Photo. The Salgi Esophageal Cancer Research Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to raise awareness, encourage early detection and to fund research for esophageal cancer in hopes of a cure™. In 2015, the charity first awarded esophageal cancer research funding. Since then, over 20 medical researchers have asked to be notified once funding opportunities become available. While donations are not mandatory for inclusion in the slideshow, the charity is sustained 100% by the generosity of our donors. In order to continue this mission of raising awareness, encouraging early detection and funding research of esophageal cancer, we ask you to consider making a tax-deductible donation. Learn the Facts About Esophageal Cancer:

  • Esophageal cancer is one of the fastest and deadliest cancers in the United States and western world.
  • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (acid reflux , GERD) is a primary risk factor for esophageal cancer.
  • The most common symptom of GERD is chronic heartburn.
  • Unfortunately, many are unaware that chronic heartburn can increase esophageal cancer risk.
  • There has been a 600% increase of esophageal cancer diagnoses in the past decades.
  • Symptoms, such as difficulty swallowing, often appear once the cancer has spread.
  • There are no routine or standard screenings to detect esophageal cancer in earlier stages.
  • Those diagnosed with Stage IV esophageal cancer face a survival rate of only 4.5%.
  • The overall five-year survival rate is only 18.4%.
  • To make matters even worse, esophageal cancer is critically underfunded.

Awareness, Early Detection, Research. The goal of The Salgi Esophageal Cancer Research Foundation's Esophageal Cancer Awareness Video Slideshow is to raise awareness of the fact that esophageal cancer is growing at a rapid rate and affecting people of all ages, races and gender.
