"Super Sisters" of Gospel Coming to Park Theatre

Since bursting onto the music scene in 2000 with the chart-topping crossover hit, โ€œShackles (Praise You),โ€ Mary Maryโ€”sisters Erica Campbell and Tina Campbellโ€”have never wavered from defying convention to fulfill their mission: Sending uplifting messages through music and words that are relatable to everyone. On Saturday, December 14, the Grammy winning sisters will bring their inspirational music to the Park Theatre with special guest, Rhode Islandโ€™s own gospel sisters trio: Refined 313.

Considered the โ€œSuper Sistersโ€ of Gospel, Mary Mary has enjoyed a remarkable rise to fameโ€”earning 3 Grammy Awards, 2 American Music Awards, a BET Award and Soul Train Award, and the prestigious NAACP Image Award. Credited with broadening the fan base of urban contemporary gospel by introducing elements of soul music, hip hop, funk and jazz, Mary Maryโ€™s sound remains as fresh as ever on their sixth studio album, the aptly titled, โ€œSomething Big.โ€ The vibrant album, produced by longtime collaborator Warryn Campbell, further elevated the duoโ€™s success thanks to the Grammy winning hit, โ€œGod in Me.โ€

In the spring of 2012, Mary Mary debuted a new single, โ€œGo Get It,โ€ from their first ever compilation album of the same name during a sold-out performance at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles, California. Representing a collection of the groupโ€™s greatest hits, โ€œGo Get Itโ€ scored Mary Mary a double Grammy nomination in the categories of Best Gospel/Contemporary Music Performance and Best Gospel Song, with the compilationโ€™s title track, โ€œGo Get It,โ€ winning a Grammy in the latter category.

Highlighting their versatility as talented performers, Erica and Tina premiered their own television series, Mary Mary, on WE tvโ€”a digital and satellite channel owned by AMC Networksโ€”in March 2012. The unscripted reality documentary series, which follows the daily lives of the sister musicians as they balance their households and careers, has been met with rave reviews. Following two successful seasons, WE tv renewed the series in early 2013 for a third season that will begin airing shortly.

The performance of Mary Mary will also feature special guest, Rhode Islandโ€™s own gospel sisters trio, Refined 313. Natives of Providence, the soulful music ministry of the three sistersโ€”Angel, Melody and Rozโ€”began in their home church, House of God Church, where their father was Pastor Roosevelt Campbell. Featuring heartfelt lyrics over upbeat tunes, Refined 313โ€™s music reaches those searching for hope, love and peace though song.
