'Top Golf Providence' Name Creates Controversy In Cranston: Report
Mayor Ken Hopkins wants the location to be called "TopGolf Rhode Island" or "TopGolf Cranston."
CRANSTON, RI — Although there is plenty of excitement about TopGolf opening a location in Cranston, the sports and entertainment complex's name has created some controversy in the city.
The complex being built at the former Citizens Bank headquarters on Sockanosset Cross Road will be called TopGolf Providence, much to the ire of Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins, WPRI 12 reported.
"If they want to have it TopGolf Providence, take the poles down, take the building down and move it to Providence," Hopkins told WPRI 12. "I told them over a month ago we are adamant about the naming rights. I would want TopGolf Rhode Island or TopGolf Cranston."
