Traffic Change Coming To Elmwood, Park Ave. Intersection

A new traffic pattern is coming to the intersection, which is notoriously difficult for left turns.

CRANSTON, RI — A major traffic change is coming to the intersection of Park Avenue and Elmwood Avenue in Cranston, where it's notoriously difficult to make left turns. Starting April 15, a center turn lane will be added in an effort to streamline traffic flow.

Called a road diet, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation says the change will increase safety and ease of driving in the area. For about two miles along Elmwood Avenue, the road will be restriped from two lanes in each direction to one travel lane and a turn lane.

In addition, crews are working to install a new traffic signal at the intersection, which is scheduled to go into operation in late spring or early summer.
