Verizon Switches on 4G LTE Network in Cranston

Cranston is one of 21 communities in Rhode Island and Massachusetts to have access to Verizon's 4G LTE service.

If you have a 4G LTE-capable phone on the Verizon Wireless network, expect faster browsing speeds starting today.

Verizon Wireless announced today that it launched its new 4G LTE service today in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, including Cranston.

Beginning Thursday, Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network will offer tremendous opportunity to Providence’s residents and businesses to better connect and innovate,” said Christine Berberich, New England region president for Verizon Wireless. “As New England’s wireless leader, we continue to invest in and expand our 4G LTE coverage across the region and look forward to bringing Providence and surrounding communities on board this week.”

Verizon's 4G LTE service was first introduced in December of 2010. The carrier claims data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second downstream and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps.

A total of 179 cities now have access to the service across the country. Along with Cranston, 22 other cities and towns now can connect to the network:
