Walmart Store Brand Sausage Recalled For Salmonella Risk

More than 6,500 pounds of Walmart's in-house brand sausage have been recalled due to a risk of salmonella contamination.

More than 6,500 pounds of precooked sausage sold under Walmart's in-house brand has been recalled due to possible salmonella contamination. The ready-to-eat pork and turkey Great Value sausages were sold in Walmart stores across the country.

The recalled sausages were made on April 19, April 27, May 7 and May 9. They include the following items:

  • Great Value Fully Cooked Original Pork Sausage Patties
    • 24.92 oz packages
    • Use-by date: Oct. 16
    • Lot: 1091971894
  • Great Value Fully Cooked Original Breakfast Turkey Patties
    • 24.92 oz packages
    • Use-by date: Oct. 24
    • Lot: 1171971897
  • Family Size Great Value Fully Cooked Original Pork Sausage Patties
    • 24.92 oz packages
    • Use-by date: Nov. 3 or 5
    • Lot: 1271972894, 1291972894

The recalled products all have the establishment number "EST. M2206T or P-2260T" on the package.

Anyone with the recalled sausages is encouraged to throw them away or return them to the store, the Rhode Island Department of Health said. The products should not be eaten.

Eating foods contaminated with salmonella can cause of the most common forms of bacterial foodborne illness, the department said. Common symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating, usually lasting four to seven days.
