West Bay Spends the Day with Family and Friends for a Picnic at Goddard Park

The community of individuals, family, friends and staff of West Bay came together on Sunday, September 14th for a picnic at Goddard State Park. The gathering went the way of most West Bay events, with attendance close to 350. It was a beautiful, sunny day and all that participated could not help but smile throughout the day, while enjoying the food, music, and fun.

This event was an opportunity for the many people who make up the West Bay team to get together, relax, and enjoy each other’s company. It is at happenings such as the picnic that the effort which goes into creating a strong, sharing, supportive team at West Bay is on full display.

Lila Carney, sister to Bruce Montgomery who is supported by West Bay, noted this when asked for her impression of the picnic. “I think it’s absolutely tremendous to see how many people that it takes to make [West Bay] happen. To see all the vans coming in, all the people that need help with wheelchairs, and all the people who need assistance to do the smallest task, and if you look around everyone is smiling. It’s such a happy event, everyone is having a great time, and everyone has gladness in their heart. It’s just inspiring to see.”

It has been many years since West Bay has hosted a picnic, yet based on the response to this year’s event, it is likely to be a repeat for years to come.

West Bay Residential Services, Inc. provides residential, employment and day support services to more than 130 individuals with developmental disabilities. West Bay supports individuals in making life choices, maintaining friend and family relationships and having fun while establishing their role within their community.
