School officials investigating Cumberland boys soccer team (providencejournal.com) — Cumberland school officials are investigating an incident involving members of the Cumberland High School boys soccer team, prompting the postponement of recent games. Details are being kept confidential because students are involved, but the superintendent says more information will be shared once the inquiry is complete and the team is next scheduled to play on Sept. 9.
3. GotSneakers? Recycle them at Planet Fitness locations to Benefit Youth at Boys & Girls Clubs (rinewstoday.com) — Cumberland residents can drop off gently used sneakers at the Mendon Road Planet Fitness now through October 31 to support local Boys & Girls Clubs and keep shoes out of landfills. The drive is part of a regional Planet Fitness–GotSneakers partnership promoting youth programs and sustainability across Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.
4. Cumberland Woman Charged With Abusing Young Son: Cops (patch.com) — A woman from Cumberland has been charged with second-degree child abuse after Woonsocket police reviewed video of her striking her young son at a local motel. The child was treated at Hasbro Children's Hospital, and officers documented visible injuries while the mother was later located nearby and arrested.
