Dancing with the Stars week 3- a recap by your local Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Warwick

Week three on dancing with the stars was Hollywood night, and there were some great shows to be seen!

Starting of the night were Leah Remini & her professional partner Tony with a Rumba

Score: 24

Leah preformed a very steamy rumba. The facial expressions and leg lines were solid and I enjoyed her growth from the previous weeks. She needs to become a bit more fluid and comfortable in her movement, but seems like she has more natural talent than she believes.

The second couple to entertain the crowd were Corbin Bleu and his professional partner Karina with a Quickstep

Score: 26

Corbin is fast and energetic and exciting to watch. He has a great frame, especially for being the first ballroom dance he has had to tackle. Corbin and Karina were out of sync once or twice, but since this number was choreographed so fast, that’s almost excusable. I’m looking forward to his slower ballroom dances.

Next to grace the floor were Elizabeth Berkely and her professional partner Val dancing a Foxtrot

Score:27

What a fun and light Foxtrot. Elizabeth looked like she had a great time and incorporated the character and time of the number beautifully.  Good posture, nice flow to the routine and good musicality are all to be seen. Elizabeth needs to keep her right arm up a bit more and start the routine as confidently as she finished at (she was looking at Val quite a few times to start off with), but she is as the judges put it “a contender”

The next bootless couple was Brant Daugherty and his professional partner Peta dancing a Quickstep.

Score:27

Injured and booted during practice, Brant shows no sign of difficulty dancing his Quickstep. It was light and controlled and energetic all at once. He looked the part and danced even better. I see some footwork improvement in his future, but he is a graceful dancer already.

The fifth couple ChaCha-ing around the floor were Valerie Harper and her professional partner Tristan.

Score: 16

This was Valeries weakest dance so far. She seemed like she had a hard time remembering the routine and is was more of Tristan guiding her through the dance, which is exactly what the preview showed already. This was not her dance, and it is hard to judge the quality of it since she seemed to have forgotten most of her routine. Valerie was definitely better in the last two weeks.

Pasodobling their way onto the floor were Bill Engvall and hid professional partner Emma.

Score: 24

This “lone ranger” homage was definitely Bills strongest dance so far. He has much to learn, but I enjoy watching him, because he simply get better every week, he wasn’t a great dancer to start off with already (there seem to be quite a few this season). Bill is leading, hi timing is on and he is in character. He needs to become a bit more fluid, but he is absolutely putting 150% into his dancing.

Sixth on the floor were Amber Riley and her professional partner Derek with a Charleston.

Score: 24

I think this routine was under evaluated. The judges were pretty harsh on Amber as I think the routine was well danced, in-sync and energetic. Ambers stunning first weeks performance seems to have set the bar for her so high that the judges are much harder on her than other contestants.

Style wise I would have liked a bit less hip-hop elements, but Derek likes to choreograph those in and I guess they did match the song.

Next up on the floor were Jack Osbourne and his professional partner Cheryl dancing a ChaCha

Score:22

Jack seems like the most unlikely dancer, but he is talented and entertaining to watch. He seemed a lot more comfortable last week in his Rumba, probably because the ChaCha was extremely fast. Jack and Cheryl need to work on Jacks footwork and fluidity, but overall he is a solid dancer and entertaining to watch

The next couple to dance Charleston were Christina Millian and her professional partner Mark.

Score: 26

Christina is an energetic and emotional dancer. She has a great character through and through and her and Mark were so in sync. Their head actions, foot actions, arm lines and movements were right on with each other. I noted last week that Christinas shoulders seemed a bit high in her dress, it seems like that is something she has to work on as it struck my eye again.

The next Quickstep was performed by Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and her professional partner Sasha

Score: 25

The music, the show and the dancing were all great. Snooki looked elegant and fast and competent. She worked very hard in the last week and I see a huge improvement from her performance last week. I’d like to see Sasha work Snooki on her posture to get her bottom tucked in and her head position out, it will make her look taller and help her stay in contact with her partner.

The last couple to Jazz through a painful routine were Bill Nye and his professional partner Tyne.

Score: 16

This couple was the big question mark of the night. Bill injured himself quite badly in last weeks performance and was actually advised to not dance, but he is a true competitor and danced on. The number was choreographed around his injury, but no matter how well choreographed, some things just can’t be hidden. Bill was still very stiff (more so than his character should have been), but I though his musicality was much better than before. There wasn’t a lot of content to judge, but his determination is admirable.

The couple eliminated this week was Bill Nye and Tyne, which was not suprising based on Bills injury. This is probably in the best interest for Bill anyways, as his injury won’t be healing without rest.

Who was your favorite couple and what did you think?
