East Greenwich High School Music Director Wins Champion for Youth Award

Brendan Carniaux has been recognized for his support of students both on and off the stage.

The Student Leadership Training Program has announced that Brendan Carniaux, East Greenwich High School’s music director, is one of the recipients of the organization’s New England Regional Champion for Youth Award.

Carniaux was recognized for his support and involvement with youth and as music director, “Carniaux spends many hours in support of his students and their continued success both on the stage and off,” a release stated. “Carniaux believes what a student learns in band or orchestra goes beyond notes on a page. His ultimate goal is to develop thinking and feeling musicians that are capable of making informed and independent decisions about music and to transfer this knowledge to other aspects of their lives.”

The Student Leadership Training Program sponsors leadership conferences for adults and student leaders consisting of intensive five-day workshops that assembles teacher and student leaders from across North America.

The Coalition for the Advancement of Student Activities sponsors SLTP and is a nonprofit formed by student activity advisors. It was founded in 1990 and more than 10,000 student leaders have participated.
