EAST GREENWICH, RI — The Pawtucket Police Department has released more details about the arrest of an off-duty East Greenwich officer over the weekend. Mark A. Edmonds Jr., 25, of Pawtucket was arrested Saturday and charged with several counts of domestic assault.

On Tuesday, Pawtucket police released Edmonds' arrest report outlining the seven charges he faces, including one felony. According to the report, the female victim was visibly afraid when the officer arrived on Saturday, shaking and saying she did not feel safe. She told police that Edmonds had been consistently abusing her for more than a year, using his position as a police officer to threaten to "make her life hell." She detailed ongoing instances of abuse, including being threatened at gunpoint while pregnant.

Once the child was born, the victim reported several arguments that ended in Edmonds' choking her. In all of the cases, she said, his position as a police officer and her fear for her safety and that of her child prevented her from reporting the abuse.

Edmonds was arrested after the victim said she had repeatedly tried to call the police as he yelled at her, hanging up the phone before she could speak with a dispatcher.

Edmonds was charged with one felony of domestic assault by strangulation and six misdemeanors including assault and battery and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned before a bail commissioner on Sunday and ordered not to have any contact with the victim pending a formal court appearance on Thursday.
