East Greenwich's Kennedy Wins Event at Italian Sculling Challenge

The high school sophomore has been rowing for just two years and is already a force to be reckoned with.

East Greenwich’s Brigid Kennedy took first place in the Junior Women’s Event at the Italian Sculling Challenge in the foothills of the Alps northeast of MIlan, Italy, recently.

Kennedy, a sophomore at Moses Brown School, began rowing just two years ago as a member of the Narragansett Boat Club’s scholastic rowing program and has quickly become a force to be reckoned with.

“Have oars, will travel” is her motto: in six months, she has won an event in Washington, D.C., and two in Sarasota, Fla.

In her most recent race on picturesque Lake Orta in Italy, she earned a time of 28’ 11.6”. Her closest competitor was Camilla Musetti of nearby Pallanza rowing club, who finished second with a time of 29’ 55.0”.

Along with winning her event, she finished 42nd overall among all 84 single cullers from many age categories and three continents.
