EG Police Investigating Animal Abuse over Pit Bull's Shocking Condition

Police are investigating after a 25-year-old Central Falls man brought a emaciated dog suffering for severe skin problems to an EG vet.

East Greenwich police are investigating possible animal abuse after a Central Falls man brought an emaciated and suffering mother pit bull and her newborn puppy to Ocean State Veterinary Clinic on South County Trail Aug. 16.

Police said they were contacted by the clinic shortly after noon where they were told that the man brought the dog in for treatment and the dog was “clearly neglected,” according to a police report.

“She was emaciated, icteric, suffering from serious skin issues and draining pus from all her orifices,” police said.

Staff told the man that the dog should be left at the facility for treamtent, but he said he could not afford the treatment and wanted to take the dog.

The attending vet said that if the dog was taken it would have no chance of surviving the night and police warned the man about “how it would look if he took the dog out of the facility and also that I would do all that i could do legally to prevent him from taking the dog,” the report stated.

It was then that the man, 25, changed his mind and left the facility.

Photographs of the dog were taken but “all the techs and doctors stated the biggest fear is what could not be photographed.”

The investigation is ongoing.
