Hanaford Students Make Super Bowl a Way to Help Food Bank
Enthusiasm for the recent Super Bowl became a way to pull off a community outreach program.

Schools today are trying hard to teach students how to develop practical skills to solve everyday challenges.
Here’s a sign that the effort is taking root in East Greenwich. And it resulted in some substantial community service, too.
Students at the George R. Hanaford Elementary School participated in a community outreach program to benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. They called it the Hanaford Souper Bowl.

Each food item brought in counted as a vote for their favored team to win the Super Bowl.
Hanaford students voted 585 to 85 in favor of the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl.

Not only did they correctly predict the winner of the big game, they created a big win for the food bank. It adds up to 630 items of food in all.
Grade 4 led the way with 321 donations. Grade 3 and 5 were neck and neck with 154 and 155 donations respectively.
