Lady Avengers Cruise to 58-43 Victory

Leah Settipane leads team with 20 points.

The Lady Avengers bested the Mariners of Narragansett Tuesday evening 58-43 in a very physical division II contest.  Despite very rough play on behalf of the Mariners, the Lady Avs were able to persevere and secure the victory.

“This was the best team effort we have had so far this season," said senior Leah Settipane, who led the team with 20 points. "We stayed composed when we faced Adversity”.

The game started very close with both teams making their shots and playing hard defense.  However, soon senior Kiley Powers and sophomore Marielle Kraft lit up draining multiple threes.  On the other side of the court, the girls continued to play excellent defense allowing the Avengers to develop a strong lead of 31-15 going into the half.

The Avengers continued to be dominant in the second half, with Leah Settipane, Kiley Powers, and Marielle Kraft consistently hitting their shots.  Kraft ended the night with 12 points while Powers had 9 points.  They were assisted offensively by Junior Karen Lockhart, Seniors Tracey Mason and Natalie Higham, as well as by Sophomores Keri Pallister, Lauren Duvall, and Julia Pelosi.

In response to the Avenger lead, the other team got more physical committing very harsh fouls.  One of the fouls even resulted in Kiley Powers temporarily being taken out of the game for medical reasons while the player committing the foul was benched.  Despite the Mariners’ aggression, the Lady avengers were able to overcome adversity and pull out the 58-43 win.
