Main Street Gets New Hot Dog Cart

Sometimes new ideas walk through your door. That’s what happened recently for Dave Edwards and Linda Peters, co-owners of Consignors on Main Street – someone came in to the shop wanting to consign a food cart.

“We thought about it and thought, that’s a great idea. Maybe we should just take it ourselves and try it,” recalled Edwards Thursday. He was standing behind the newly opened Designer Dogs & Chix on the sidewalk next to Consignors.

“There’s not a lot of action down this end of the street,” Edwards said, compared to Main Street north of London Street. “We decided to try to get a little more action down here. It will help everybody out.”

And while he’s offering classic hot-dog cart fare (think Saugys, celery salt and relish), Designer Dogs also has gluten-free dogs and grilled chicken.

“We do a nice grilled chicken that you can put in a wrap or on a bun,” Edwards said. “A mango-pineapple salsa, with chicken and a little guacamole – nice!”
