Kevin Dunphy, 69, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 21, 2015.
Born in Wakefield, RI on August 22, 1945 he was the son of the late Raymond and late Catherine (Coleman) Dunphy.
He was raised in East Greenwich and graduated from East Greenwich High School with the class of 1963. Also a graduate of Providence College in 1967, Kevin continued his education and received his master’s degree of education from Providence College in 1980.

He was employed by the RI Department of Corrections - Adult Probation and Parole Department for 25 years as a probation and parole counselor, and more recently, as the deputy compact administrator. Kevin retired in February 2014, and he was loved and admired by many colleagues. He was also employed by the Department of Children Youth & Families as a child protective investigator and at the Opportunities Industrialization Center in Providence (OIC) as a special education counselor. He also worked at the New England Regional Burn Program in Boston as an assistant New England coordinator.
Kevin served as an active duty military intelligence officer in the United States Army Security Agency from 1969 - 1973. He was a member of the Roger Williams University faculty (School of Law) as a guest lecturer. Kevin was an avid reader and loved the Boston Red Sox and Irish Music. He was the treasurer and past president of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. He was an active communicant of St. Joseph’s Parish in West Warwick and attended the 8 am mass.

Family always came first to Kevin. He was the beloved husband of 47 years of Janet Dunphy of West Warwick. Kevin was the loving father of Kevin R. Dunphy, Jr. and wife Amy Dunphy of Walnut Creek, CA, and Colleen M. Gordon and husband Michael Gordon, of Attleboro MA. Kevin cherished and loved his 6 grandchildren, Shawn Gordon, Ryan Gordon, Meghan Gordon, Christian Dunphy, Brayden Dunphy and Keira Dunphy. He was the brother of Patricia Alessi and her husband Cosimo of Phoenix, AZ, Sheila Greene and her husband David of South Kingston, RI, the late Terrence Dunphy of Barrington, RI, and his wife Gail, many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral Monday April 27th at 8:00 am from the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., E. Greenwich followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., E. Greenwich. Burial with military honors will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, E. Greenwich. Calling hours: Sunday April 26th from 3-7 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215.
