Council members discussed helmet standards, youth riders, golf carts, and battery fire risks, but chose to wait on any local rules until after community input and possible changes in state law.

With high home prices, significant cost burdens, and state Housing 2030 targets, neighbors debated growth along Route 2, affordability, and preserving town character. More input opportunities are coming with a transportation workshop Oct. 28 and a survey open through Oct. 31.

• EG Football: Season-Opening Win Vs. Ponaganset, 47-7 (eastgreenwichnews.com) — East Greenwich football opened its season with a dominant 47–7 road win over Ponaganset, powered by long touchdown runs from Spencer Padula and Brian Gibbs. The team now turns to its first home game this Friday, Sept. 18, hosting Middletown at Carcieri Field at 7 p.m. The outlet is also seeking a local volunteer to help track game stats.
