Police Log: Angry Landlord, Bike Stolen, Man Caught with Pot and no Pants

The following arrest and incidents were reported by East Greenwich police. They do not indicate a conviction.

RAMPAGE
A Main Street landlord allegedly punched a tenant, threw a vacuum cleaner at him, threw furniture and other items and then punched out the window to another tenant’s apartment in outburst on July 27, police said.

William H. Blake, 64, of 10 Union St., East Greenwich, was charged with resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, disorderly conduct, felony assault on a person over 60 and vandalism for the incident.

Police said they were dispatched to 312 Main Street at around 11:12 p.m. for a report of someone banging on a door to the apartment complex.

Police arrived and found Blake in the middle of the road with blood pouring from a wound to his hand, which police later determined from him punching through the glass window of the first floor apartment.

After an investigation, police concluded that Blake went to the third floor apartment and banged on the door. The tenant answered the door and Blake allegedly was agitated and began throwing items outside the apartment and then hit the man with his fists, a staff and tried to hit him with a vacuum cleaner but the tenant was able to block it.

Blake then left the apartment, but smashed the window to the first floor apartment on his way out.

Officers said Blake was combative and would not answer any questions or even identify himself.

Blake reportedly became aggressive towards officers and was restrained during a brief struggle, which caused some of his blood to get smeared on the uniform and arms of an officer who responded to the scene.

POSSESSION
East Greenwich Police charged Alan D. Iemma, 23, of 7 Taft Ave., Johnston, with marijuana possession July 22 at 1:45 a.m.

Police said they stopped Iemma for nearly hitting a pedestrian on Main Street at around midnight.

The officer reported that Iemma smelled like alcohol and said he had five beers over the course of the past five hours and was on his way to get some food at Wendy’s.

Police noticed that Iemma was not wearing any pants and when he reached into the glove box to get his registration papers, police saw a bag of marijuana.

Iemma passed a field sobriety test but police said they did not feel comfortable with him driving so they waited for him to secure a ride.

Iemma was cited for speeding and possessing less than an ounce of marijuana.

PURSE FOUND
A Proctor Avenue woman brought a purse to police that was found on her property July 21 and the owner was soon reunited.

Police said the purse had a phone, keys, cards and other information in it to identify its owner.

Police went to that woman’s address she was able to recite her social security number and other information to prove it was her purse.

ARGUMENT LEADS TO ARRESTS
Three men were charged with a variety of offenses after an argument broke out on Main Street July 21.

Police said two men were walking down the street when Michael Angelo Rocchio, 27, of 4 Old Farm Road, East Greenwich, allegedly yelled at them as he drove by.

The men walking, identified as Daniel W. Bateson, 23, of 94 Intervale Road, Cranston; and Joshua Pacheco, 20, of 104 Waldron Ave., Cranston, yelled back.

Rocchio followed the men until they were all in front of Thorpe’s Liquors. The argument escalated and Rocchio allegedly got out of his car and was holding a box cutter, threatening to “slice” Bateson and Pacheco up. This was after a can of Arizona Iced Tea was reportedly hurled at Rocchio’s car, causing some scratches.

The argument continued to escalated until an employee of Thorpe’s liquors came out to break it up.

In the end, Bateson and Rocchio were charged with disorderly conduct. Pacheco was charged with a weapons law violation after officers found he had a pair of brass knuckles.

SCAM ATTEMPT
On July 22, scammers tried -- and failed -- to get the owner of Regency Cigar Emporium on Main Street to fall for a scam.

Police said the owner reported that he got a call at around 2 p.m from a man with an accent who claimed he was from National Grid and the power would be shut off without immediate payment.

The owner hung up and confirmed that his bills were fine after calling national grid himself.

Police said they called the number and a recorded voice said “welcome to the gas and electric disconnect department.”

There was no option to leave a message.

PROPERTY DAMAGE
Someone cut a pair of strands of barbed wire on the northwest fence line at Post Road Self Storage at 5805 Post Road sometime overnight July 25, police said.

No other damage was observed.

DISORDERLY

Police said they were dispatched to the apartment at around 10:48 p.m. where a woman said she didn’t want Lombard staying there.

Lombard reportedly left the scene, but about 30 minutes later, officers were sent back to the apartment where they found Lombard outside.

He was taken into custody without incident.
