Police Log: Crashed Truck but No Driver, Pit Bull Found, Movies Stolen
The following arrest and incident reports were provided by East Greenwich police. They do not indicate a conviction.

ALCOHOL FOUND IN CRASHED TRUCK
Police responded to a crash involving a pickup truck that smashed into rocks at two intersections on Frenchtown Road Sept. 1 and found debris littering the roadway, empty beer cans and liquor in the truck but no driver to be found anywhere.
Police said an officer dispatched to the scene saw debris consistent with a crash along with a ladder, power tools and insulation near the intersection of Frenchtown and Shippee Roads. The truck itself was found a short ways up Frenchtown Road near Forrest Lane and it had fresh damage, police said.
In the truck, police said they smelled alcohol and saw empty beer bottles and a half empty bottle of Dr. McGillicuddy’s. A nearby resident told police that he saw a man on his cell phone outside the truck but didn’t see where he went or if he was picked up by anyone before police arrived.

A check of the truck’s registration showed it belonged to a 35-year-old West Greenwich man who had a suspended license and an active Third Division District Court warrant.
An accident investigation concluded that the driver lost control due to speed and flew off the road near Shippee Road, hitting a rock. The accident caused a wheel to separate from the axle. The truck then backed onto Frenchtown Road and continued for a short distance before driving off the road once again.

Police cleaned up the scene, the vehicle was towed and a summons was mailed to the vehicle owner, identified by police as Joseph Tully of 257 Mishnock Drive in West Greenwich.
PIT BULL FOUND
Police reported finding a female pit bull with no tags on Carrs Pond Road on Sept. 6 at round 10:11 p.m.
The dog was happy but skinny, police said, and she was transported to North Kingstown Animal Hospital.
POLE DAMAGED
Someone recently backed into a light pole at Pine Glen Condominiums and drove away, leaving behind a potential $2,500 repair bill.
Police said the property manager reported on Sept. 3 that a resident said she saw an elderly woman in a large sedan hit the pole while attempting to turn around in the lot.
The car then drove off.
Police said they had a license plate number and were investigating.
The concrete footing for the pole was moved somewhat by the impact, police said.
MOVIES STOLEN
A Marlborough Street woman told police that someone stole 200 DVDs and VHS tapes from a bookshelf in the entryway to her apartment recently.
Police said the resident noticed the theft at around 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 4 while entering her residence.
There was no sign of forced entry and police are investigating.
PLATE STOLEN
Someone stole a farm license plate from a construction truck at Wildwood Nursery and Garden Center on Frenchtown Road.
Police said the owner reported the theft on Sept. 4, telling police that he noticed the plate missing that morning.
The plate, No. 1655, was removed from the back of a 1999 Dodge.
The incident was documented.
WARRANTS
Police charged Pedro Lugo, 22, of 160 Broad St., Providence, with driving without a license and a warrant Spet. 1 at 4:02 p.m.
Police said Lugo was stopped on Main Street for extremely dark tinted windows. A check showed he had no driver’s license and was wanted for failing to appear in court.
On Sept. 1 at 7:34 p.m., police charged James M. Hughes, 29, of 91 Rosemary Drive, North Kingstown, with a warrant.
Police said they responded to a report of a car parked on Middle Road in a tow zone. Hughes and a woman approached an officer, telling him that they normally park at a friend’s house but there was no room in the area. A check of Hughes’ information showed he had an active warrant out of Third Division District Court in the amount of $8,090 with surety.
He was taken into custody without incident.
