Police Log: Rings Stolen, Boat Damaged, Purses Stolen and Found

The following incidents were reported by the East Greenwich Police Department.

RINGS STOLEN
Two residents of Greenwich Bay Manor on Main Street told police on Aug. 25 that two rings valued at about $1,800 were stolen from their apartment.

Police said the rings went missing between Aug. 28 and 22. Police are investigating.

BOAT DAMAGED
A 25-foot boat was damaged while docked near Lion Street and Water Street sometime in August, police said.

The boat owner reported the damage on Aug. 25 and said someone damaged the windshield, canopy, GPS, radios and gauges.

Police did not provide details about the extent or nature of the damage, but said the boat has been docked in the same location for seven years with no problems until the recent incident.

TRAP SET
East Greenwich police reported setting a trap for feral cats in an empty lot on Marlborough Street.

The trap was set on Aug. 25, police said, and was set by the animal control officer and a representative of the Ocean State Animal Coalition.

DOG REUINTED WITH OWNER
A friendly female pit bull roaming the area was reunited with her owner on Aug. 27 after an animal control officer found the dog in front of a Long Street building and transported it to North Kingstown Animal Hospital.

The same ACO was approached by the owner on Main Street about 40 minutes later. The owner was searching for the dog and told that he could pick him up at the animal hospital after getting a release from at the police station.

The dog reportedly was not licensed in the town and the owner promised to rectify the situation.

INSPECTION STICKER MISSING
The owner of L and S auto at 5601 Post Road told police on Aug. 28 that a state inspection sticker had been printed out on May 2 of this year but had never been put on a vehicle.

Police said the owner said be believes it might have been blown away or swept up by accident car but wasn’t sure what really happened. He was sure that it was lost and not stolen, however.

Police forwarded the report to the state Department of Transportation.

SCOOTER FOUND
A Grandview Road resident told police on Aug. 29 that he found a Razor scooter across the street from his house near Cumberland Farms.

The resident said he brought the scooter to the police station in case someone was looking for it.

PURSE FOUND IN TRASH
A Saunderstown woman’s purse that was stolen recently was found in a trash bin at the BP service station at 3333 South County Trail on Aug. 28.

Police said a clerk at the station said he found the purse on top of trash inside the bin while performing his duties.

Police said the purse contained the woman’s driver’s license and she was notified her purse was found.

Police are investigating.

PURSE, WALLET STOLEN
A purse and wallet were stolen from two cars parked outside a Duke Street home on Aug. 30.

Police said they were dispatched to the residence at around 11 a.m. where a resident reported leaving her purse in her unlocked car overnight only to find it stolen the next morning at around 8 a.m.

The purse contained a wallet, checkbook, makeup and $20 in cash.

The woman also told police that her husband’s wallet, which he left on the front seat of his car, was also stolen. It contained credit cards, a license and $15 cash.

Police reported interviewing several potential suspects but no arrests were immediately made.

TABLET FOUND
On Aug. 30, a South Road resident told police she found a Samsung 4G tablet while walking on Shippee Road earlier that day.

The tablet was found on the side of the road, police said, and she brought it home and called police.

A check showed the tablet was not reported stolen. It was held for safekeeping.

PURSE FOUND
East Greenwich police delivered a woman’s purse and sweatshirt to her School Lane residence after she accidentally left it under a stool at the Greenwich Hotel.

Police said the bartender saw the purse on Aug. 31 at around 11:25 p.m. and immediately called police, telling an officer she felt uncomfortable opening it.

Police checked the purse and found the owner’s ID, which showed she lived nearby.

The officer then brought the items to the owner’s house. She told police that nothing was missing.
