Rocky Hill School to Host Leadership and Sportsmanship Conference with Keynote Speaker Joe Andruzzi

Conference is for all Rhode Island 8th graders and Keynote by Joe Andruzzi is open to everyone

Rocky Hill School has been awarded a grant from the Rhode Island Interscholastic League to present Leadership and Sportsmanship in Athletics, a free workshop for rising ninth grade students. The conference will be held at the Rocky Hill School campus on Saturday, April 9 from 9:00 AM – 1:30 PM and is open to all eighth grade students in Rhode Island. Faculty or coach mentors may attend with students and should register, as well.

The goal of the program is to encourage middle school athletes to pursue sports and leadership in high school and to learn skills and techniques that will help them be better teammates. The program, designed by Rocky Hill School senior Allison DeGerlia of Westerly, includes four workshops, lunch, and an address by keynote speaker Joe Andruzzi, the former Patriots offensive guard and three-time Super Bowl champion whose football career was cut short when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Burkitt’s lymphoma in 2007. Andruzzi still works as an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Patriots and he founded the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, which helps families battling cancer with financial and emotional support.

The student workshops will include segments on team building, sportsmanship, mindfulness, and how to be a successful high school athlete. Presenters include Rocky Hill School student leaders and coaches, the Rocky Hill School College Counselor, mindfulness expert Vanessa Weiner of ResilientKids, Bryant University's Head Track and Field Coach Mitch Switzer, and a current college athlete.
