Symposium Books Named Best Independent Bookstore in RI
The readers of Rhode Island Monthly selected Symposium Books as the best independent bookstore in Rhode Island.
With a plethora of fine independent book stores in Rhode Island to choose from, Symposium Books’ owner Anne Marie Keohane is especially pleased to have recently been picked by the readers of Rhode Island Monthly as the best independent book store in the state.
“We’re psyched about it!” Keohane said. “It means so much that they went ahead and voted for us out of all the lovely bookstores in Rhode Island and we are very grateful.”
The coveted Best of Rhode Island awards were announced last week.

Keohane said she tries to keep in touch with her customers as much as possible. The store is highly active on Facebook and Twitter and put out a monthly newsletter that is actually worth reading. The unique voice and enthusiasm has helped the store thrive and expand at a time when independent bookstores are supposedly disappearing.
Her efforts have led to a steadily-growing customer base who come for a deep selection of books along with the events and groups hosted at the store. Recently, they hosted a singles night to cater to adults looking to mingle and meet others outside of the typical bar scene – just the latest new thing Keohane has tried in her quest to run the best store she can.
