Two Phony $100 Bills Passed at EG Dave's Marketplace
Two people came in 20 minutes apart and each used a fake $100 bill to make a small purchase on Thursday.

Two fake $100 bills were passed at the East Greenwich Dave’s Marketplace on Thursday, police said.
Police said the security director for the store reported the incident on Friday and said both bills were accepted at the registers for two small purchases.
A review of security camera footage revealed that two people came into the store 20 seconds apart. One bought two energy drinks and got $95.27 change. Another bought a pound of strawberries and got $97.50 in change.

East Greenwich police said both bills shared a serial number. One of the bills was secured by police. Another will be used for employee training.
Police said the Secret Service would be contacted.

One of the cashiers reportedly held one of the bills to the light and thought it was real. It was only when they were tested in the back office that they were revealed as fakes, which indicates that counterfeiters have figured out how to make the bills appear legitimately watermarked.
