Volunteers Continue Restoration of East Greenwich's Historic Cemetery 18
East Greenwich has 91 historic cemeteries — that means the town's Historical Cemetery Commission is always thankful for some extra help.
Volunteers and members of the East Greenwich Historical Cemetery Commission recently were out on a lovely Saturday at Rhode Island Historical Cemetery 18, cleaning up and continuing the restoration of the cemetery — one of scores of historic burial grounds in town.
Pictured here, volunteers Kathy Healey, Robin Wittwer and Joanne Balzano with rakes and clippers in hand get ready to tackle the job. Kathy commented that she is motivated by the whole idea of restoring and rehabilitating our historic cemeteries. She continued, “I love this town and the opportunity to give back to East Greenwich.”
There are two more Saturdays from 9-12 earmarked for spring cleanups, May 16 and June 20. Please email egcemeteryvolunteer@gmail.com if you are interested in signing up for any of these dates so the Commission can plan site projects based on volunteer interest. You will then receive an email about 7 days before the cleanup date with details as to specific historic cemetery site assignment and necessary instructions.
