ATM Card Scammers Sought by Police

This man allegedly used an East Providence resident's bank information to program a fake bank card which was used to withdraw money from an ATM in Providence.

An ongoing scam involving fake bank cards programmed with stolen bank account information has an East Providence connection and the East Providence Police Department is asking for your help.

The man pictured here walked into the BankRI in the Turks Head Building in Providence recently and used a counterfeit card at an ATM. The card contained information from an East Providence Residents' Navigant Credit Union account.

The suspect widthdrew an undetermined amount of cash from the ATM using the victim's information.

A man who looks similar and wearing the same hat appears in surveillance video taken from an ATM at Coastway Community Bank in East Greenwich. In that incident, the man and another suspect used blank ATM cards with magnetic strips they programmed with customer account information.

In that incident, the men appraoched the bank on foot from different directions.

Police said other area banks have been compromised as well.
