BAY VIEW ACADEMY STUDENT AND TEACHER HONORED AT CATHOLIC YOUTH MINISTRY AND SCOUT AWARDS
East Providence, RI – A Bay View Academy junior and Upper School Campus Minister were honored by The Most Reverend Thomas J. Tobin, D.D., Bishop of Providence, at The Catholic Youth Ministry and Scout Awards Celebration. The award ceremony took place at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul on March 2, 2014
Elizabeth Hathaway, RSM, (East Freetown, RI), is a teacher of theological studies at Bay View, as well as Campus Minister. Sister Liz was one of twelve recipients of the Companions on the Journey Award. This is the highest adult recognition from the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry. Nominees must show at least ten years of work dedicated to youth activities within a parish or school. According to the awards program book, “they embody a commitment to on-going education and formation, achieved longevity in ministry with outstanding commitment to young people and exemplary leadership locally and/or in diocesan programs.”
Sister Liz was nominated by Bay View for this honor. A portion of the nomination was printed in the Awards program book. It reads, “Sr. Elizabeth is a woman of deep faith and conviction who lives and breathes the call to Mercy. You will recognize the hand of God in all she does and know that she walks “the way of the Lord.”

Jenna Krapf (Providence, RI), a junior at Bay View, was honored with a St. Timothy Award. This national award is given by the Diocese of Providence and it represents that highest honor a diocese can present to a Catholic youth. Students are nominated for their exhibition of Christian leadership, Catholic morals and integrity, setting a positive example for others, and “demonstrating Gospel values through service to others.”
Jenna’s nomination was submitted by the head of religious education at her parish, St. Teresa of the Child Jesus (Pawtucket, RI). It states that, “Jenna is a unique and caring person, who is devoted to spreading Christ’s words of ‘Come follow me!’ She is truly a person whose soul reflects the love of God and the service of Jesus continued in this world.”
