BAY VIEW ACADEMY STUDENT SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT FOR CREW AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE

East Providence, RI – Caitlin Ponko (Cranston, RI), a senior at Bay View Academy and coxswain of the rowing team, signed her letter of intent to join the crew program at the University of Louisville. Caitlin, who was offered an athletic scholarship to join the Louisville Cardinals, signed her letter at Bay View on November 22nd, joined by crew coach, Albin Moser (East Providence, RI), and the Co-Athletic Directors, Cindy Neal (Cranston, RI) and Sue Reposa (Warwick, RI).

At the signing table was the same Louisville Cardinal cutout that was present for Caitlin’s sister, Chiara Ponko, when she too signed for Louisville. Chiara is a Bay View graduate of the class of 2013.

The National Letter of Intent (NLI) program is administered by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). According to the NCAA website, “the NLI is a voluntary program with regard to both institutions and student-athletes…By signing a National Letter of Intent, a prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the designated college or university for one academic year. Pursuant to the terms of the National Letter of Intent program, participating institutions agree to provide athletics financial aid to the student-athlete, provided he/she is admitted to the institution and is eligible for financial aid under NCAA rules.”
