BAY VIEW ACADEMY STUDENTS SLEEP OUT TO CALL ATTENTION TO HOMELESSNESS

East Providence, RI – On Thursday, March 20th, twelve Bay View Academy students rolled out their sleeping bags to take part in the 6th Annual Catholic Schools Sleep Out at Saint Raphael Academy. They were joined by students from St. Raphael Academy, Bishop Hendricken High School, LaSalle Academy and The Prout School. The event ran from 7:00 PM on Thursday to 7:00 AM Friday, during which time they attended Mass that was concelebrated by the chaplain of the participating schools and heard a presentation on Hunger and Homelessness by Janice Luongo, Executive Director of Mary House. They also assembled personal care packets to be donated to Breadline, an organization that gives out food and personal care items to people in need in Providence, as well as wrote letters to legislators advocating for affordable housing and bills in the Legislature aimed at preventing homelessness.
